Timemore Black Mirror Nano Espresso Scale

$99.00

Timemore is known for budget-friendly, yet high-performance products, and the Black Mirror Nano espresso scale is no exception. Loaded with several features only found on scales with a higher price-tag, such as auto-taring capabilities and flow-rate tracking, the Black Mirror Nano is well-suited to the home enthusiast and the professional barista alike.

The Black Mirror Nano combines fast response time, flow rates, accuracy and a small footprint; making it the perfect espresso scale. One of our favorite feature is the Espresso Timer Mode, make precise espresso making easier than ever, When using this feature, the Black Mirror Nano detects when a cup has been placed on the scale and immediately tares. Then, once espresso begin dripping in the cup, the timer will start and the scale will begin weighing. Once the brew cycle is complete and the cup is removed, the recorded values will flash on the display.

With a base large enough to accommodate larger brewers, such as the Chemex, and an angled display, the Black Mirror Nano can be used for virtually any brewing application. The scale also comes equipped with a Pour-Over Timing Mode and a Flow-Rate Mode, both of which are intended to help recreate that perfect pour-over recipe. The Flow-Rate Mode measures how many milliliters of water are being poured per second, while the Pour-Over Timing Mode will recognize when the brewer has been placed on the scale. The scale will then reset the weight to zero and begin the timing and weighing once water is poured onto the grounds, freeing you to focus solely on brewing while the scale handles the rest of the work.  Add a USB-C anti-dust plug to protect your scale charging port from dust, coffee and splashes.

A must for espresso machines with low clearance

A perfect scale for my Profitec Go. Well-made, durable and functions just as well as the cheaper alternative, Black Mirror Plus, but small enough to be able to easily fit 2 cups underneath the double spout portafilter without obstructing the display as it sometimes was with the Black Mirror Plus.

Timemore Black Mirror Nano Espresso Scale

I received the Timemore Black Mirror Nano Espresso Scale in late June 2023.

It was the second of two scales I bought to time shots automatically on my new Rancilio Silvia.
For comparison, the first scale was a Brewista Smart Scale II from a local shop.

The LCD on the Brewista faces upward, parallel to the counter.
The orientation combined with the LCD makes it difficult to read while pouring a shot.

The display on the Timemore Black Mirror Nano Espresso Scale is angled forward and is very bright, making it easier to see while pouring a shot.

The one irritation I have with the Timemore Black Mirror Nano Espresso Scale is that the timer resets too quickly after I finish pouring a shot.
If I get distracted, I lose the timing information after the shot is done.
I can't see a technical reason why the value cannot remain longer on the display as long as the whole unit hasn't gone into sleep mode.
The same energy is expended where 00:00 or a static shot time are displayed.

Occasionally, while the scale is in the ESP mode that enables automatic timing and after a cup has been tared, the scale will begin timing and weighing before espresso has hit the cup.
I assume this is due to vibration from the machine.
I have yet to try the rubber pad to see if that reduces this problem.

I welcome advice.

Useful scale -finicky to learn the buttons to switch from regular to auto espresso mode.

After 1 week it’s much easier to use.

Pretty good

This scale is well built and seems to have superior resistance to water penetration than cheaper scales. The controls are not well implemented. The user has to triple tap buttons to switch between modes which is annoying. Why not just have a mode button? The espresso mode is not really well designed either because it doesn’t allow for weighing the beans before pulling a shot *unless* you pour the beans very very carefully without over pouring (otherwise the timer will just start even though you haven’t started the shot yet.) As others have said online, the flow rate function is too twitchy to be useful. So, as a basic scale it’s fine. But the extra features like flow and espresso mode are not well implemented. I wouldn’t recommend it for anything beyond weighing and manual timing. Given these realities, the price is too high. That’s the manufacturers fault, and not Coffee Addicts fault. However, the scale is durable and made of quality material.
