E&B Lab Nanotech Shower Screen (E61 200 RNT)

by E&B Lab
$31.00

E&B Lab (by IMS) precision shower screen features a nanoquartz coating  that improves water distribution, reduces corrosion and increases chemical resistance. It also features a reinforced photoengraved 200µm membrane that will prevent grounds from getting through.  The extra rigidity also promotes better water distribution and more even extraction, especially with the larger doses typically used in North America.  It also has more and smaller holes when compared to the standard IMS nanotech screen.

Great water dispersion, better looking pucks, and even better tasting coffee

I was doubtful at first that a shower screen would result in a better cup but I'm convinced now. Prior to getting this screen, I was using the stock IMS shower screen for almost 2 years in my Bianca V3. With that old screen, getting a flat surface with no divots or any other indications of channeling in a used puck was always a crapshoot. I'm meticulous with my WDT and tamping as well. The immediate difference between this screen and the stock one is the advertised benefit of water dispersion - it's always consistently a rain-drop pattern. The stock screen would only do before the first shot of the day. The other difference, and most significant, is the resulting pucks and coffee in cup. I've compared shots pull from both my new triple shot VST basket and old double shot IMS and the pucks come out looking excellent on both. I no longer have to spend time cleaning the screen which is another added bonus. Just purge and leave it for the next use. I'm due for the monthly backflush with cafiza (definitely swapping the stock screen for that) and may report back on the cleanliness of the screen after.

Upgrade over original shower screen

With this group shower screen, the water really does disperse more effectively and the coffee pucks are less marked with holes and bumps, so this suggests that the extraction must be better.

The screen for E61 machines

This screen's the shh-yit for an E61 machine, the water literally showers out by drops, across the entire screen, nothing else in the market, from any manufacturer, does this. It is the 200 nanaometer fine screen, that is on the outside of the interior holed steel plate, doing this magic act. Espresso extraction is much slower, with volumetric/flow rate (mg.per sec. of extracted espresso) and you may have to turn up your flow-control, if your machine has one. I had too either increase water flow or grind slightly coarser to dial espresso back in. E&B made a killer screen. Thanks to Coffee Addicts for stocking this, not many shops in lower Canada (usa) do, so I had to order from the real Canada, to get one :)
