Coffee Sensor E61 Group Head Thermometer

$84.00

The Coffee Sensor E61 Group Head Thermometer will allow you to measure the temperature of the brew water just before it hits the coffee puck as well as the idle water temperature.

This tool is also great for adjusting the cooling flush on HX machines.  The sensor is located approximately 1.25″ above the puck which means that there will be a difference of approximately  2 degrees Celsius between the reading and the exact temperature of the water hitting the puck.

This kit contains everything you need and is easy to install on any exposed E61 group head with a M6 purge screw.

Features:

  • Single body stainless steel adapter.
  • Digital thermometer with Celsius / Fahrenheit switch button.
  • Includes 2 copper washers (one spare), battery, Allen key, wrench and installation instructions

Installation:

The installation of the Coffee Sensor Thermometer is simple and does not require any special tools.  Simply remove the Allen screw located on the front of the group head and replace it with the thermometer.

No need for Teflon tape, sealant, cutting or any modifications. Everything you need to install the thermometer is in the box.  Please make sure the E61 coffee machine is turned off and cooled down prior to instlling the thermometer.

Quality could be better

Works as it should but over time the plastic overlay will crack around the buttons. It’s not on the cheap side of things for what it does, so be forewarned.

Coffee Sensor E61 Group Head Thermometer

The thermometer seems to work well now that I have it installed on my machine: when the machine is at room temperature, the temperature indicated is the same as on the room thermometer and about 30 minutes after turning on my machine (a Rocket Cellini), it shows the grouphead as being at about 95 degrees Celsius. As the machine gets hotter, running even, say, 400 ml of brew water through the shower head does not seem to lower the temperature, however - it would take a lot more water than that. Nevertheless, I enjoy knowing the temperature; I find it reassuring. Installing it on my older machine (received used) was not simple: the thermometer did not screw in, so I used some Urnex descaling solution on a Q-tip to clean the threads in the group head hole, then it screwed in well. As there was no Teflon washer in the hole and this is necessary for a good steam seal, I fashioned a makeshift washer with a small strip of Teflon tape, and this worked well (but it would be helpful if Coffee Sensor included a Teflon washer along with the copper washers they do kindly provide). I look forward to obtaining a proper Teflon washer to replace the makeshift one, which is slightly visible.
