Comandante C40 Hand Grinder MK4

$315.00

Comandante Manual Grinders are designed by and made for Specialty Coffee Experts & Connoisseurs.

The Comandante C40 (MK4) with Nitro Blades is a robust high performance coffee hand grinder with an advanced burr set design. The selection of the burr material is the proud result of dedicated research and development.

Comandante refined the geometry and structure of the Nitro Blade burr to get the grind performance and particle distribution they were looking for with this Comandante grinder, which worked best with brewing fresh ground specialty arabica beans.

Manufacturing a Nitro Blade is a serious engineering task which requires special tools and machinery, excellent craftsmanship and lots of experience. High-nitrogen martensitic steel is extremely difficult to work with. But when finished, it is tough, highly wear resistant and has a high degree of edge retention.

With a perfect balance of aesthetic and engineering, the Comandante C40 (MK4) is  in league of its own when it comes to hand grinders. Consider picking up a burr oil care kit for better maintenance of this grinder.

Great product

Great product. A confusing start as the definition of 'zero clicks' wasn't obvious so I was starting my click count from a negative number leading to my espresso grind being way to find. A quick google search sorted out my issue (and made me feel less crazy) and I've been enjoying great coffee since!

Great grinder!

Comandante C40 Mk4 is an incredible coffee grinder. Very uniform grind size. Absolutely wonderful for French press with basically no fines in the cup! A good consistent grind size for pour over with great results. I haven't used it for espresso but I would expect that the fine grind will be as equally uniform as the coarse and mediums. Highly recommend.

It’s not a toy. It’s the real thing!

This is my third manual grinder. This is the best one I have ever used. Solid, practical, looks fantastic and grinds 30g setting 21 clics (Hoffman method) in 1 min 30 seconds. Easy to use. Good for Ibrik/Turkish coffee, espresso to French Press. Perfect to play with various methods for pour over coffee. Use it every day since the purchase. Expensive but hey! I drink coffee everyday. Might as well drink good stuff with the right tools.

Lifetime coffee grinder

There is so much written about the Comandante hand coffee grinders so not sure I am adding anything new here. Here are my impressions. From the excellent packaging (though a little "overblown", to the tool itself this is a very high quality product. In the hand it has a heft that adds to the feeling of quality. The grinder is very easy to use and calibrate and the hand-grinding process is a pleasure. Retention is as close to zero as you can get. Visually the grinds look super consistent with limited fines. A tip to avoid static during grinding is to lightly sprits the whole beans with water before grinding. One short spray and a shake is all that is needed. It would be a nice touch to add a spritzer to the package as is happening with more and more grinders these days. The burrs are stainless and will not be corroded the use of a tiny bit of water. I had to get the American Cherry model which a joy to look at. Finally, a comment on durability - light roasted beans are very hard and not as easy to grind as darker roasts. The grinding process puts stresses and strains on the grinder and it has to be built to withstand this. My impression is that the Comandante is so well designed and built that it will last a lifetime. You may think hand grinders are for traveling or for power outages but my feeling is that of you are making two or three drinks a day of our-over and espresso that this could be your go-to daily grinder- saving counter space and your wallet!
